New Content Ideas

Content remains the linchpin of Search Engine Optimization. Writing content that is targeted to keywords in your niche is still the cornerstone to get more visitors to your website from Google.

But what keywords and content to write about?

Targeting accidental rankings will bring in more traffic. These are keywords that your site ranks for, but does not necessarily have content that targets them.

As Google already associates your existing content with these keywords, if you were to target them specifically with a standalone piece of content you would have a really good chance of ranking well.

How to find these keywords? SanityCheck has a specific report to bring these to your attention.

Pages to Improve

SanityCheck has two approaches to finding pages to improve.

1. Striking distance keywords

There is a big improvement in click through rates when you get a keyword from page 2 to page 1 in Google.

Striking distance keywords are keywords that rank in positions 11 - 20 (page 2), that still get a decent number of impressions. With a bit of content improvement work, you may be able to get these keywords onto page 1 of the search results and dramatically increase the clicks.

2. Which pages on your site does Google not like?

The easy answer to this is the pages that get 0 clicks, but checking each url of your site against Google Analytics or Search Console is a time consuming task.

SanityCheck can save you days of work by taking your sitemap files and checking each url against Google Search Console.

Pages that have zero or very few clicks are prime targets for improvement or removal. You can view these pages by running the Content Quality report once registered.

Find out which pages aren't performing in Google, and could do with a little bit of love.

Improve CTR

Improving a pages click through rate not only gets it more traffic, but also indicates to Google that the page is very relevant for the keywords it appears for.

Boosting a pages click through rate can be as easy as crafting a more attractive and clickable Title and Metadescription, but how do you know which pages to work on?

SanityCheck has a report that surfaces the pages that have a click through rate that are performing below the sites average.

Improve these page titles and meta descriptions to get more clicks. A good click through rate is also rumoured to be an indicator Googles Machine Learning ranking component RankBrain uses.

Test Changes

Search Engine Optimization is all about experimentation. What works for one site, may not work for another.

This is why you should test everything.

You could do this manually, but as soon as you start testing multiple pages at once it can become a nightmare to track the stats each day in a spreadsheet.

Save yourself hours of time by using the SEO Testing component of SanityCheck

You can set up a test for your entire site, for a specific page, or a specific keyword. Once created SanityCheck will take the last 6 weeks of data, and compare it as the next 6 weeks progresses to see whether your changes have an impact on position, clicks, impressions and click through rates.

How does it work?

We have spent countless hours staring at the numbers in Google Search Console and Analytics - creating our own spreadsheets to track things and work out what changes to make to our sites.

SanityCheck is a product built on the back of those manually put together spreadsheets. Instead of doing all the number crunching and graph drawing manually - SanityCheck will do it automatically for you. Saving you time and giving you great insights on how to make your website better and get more organic search traffic from Google.
